Visually impaired people (VIP)

In Hong Kong, there are 578,600 visually impaired people (VIP) living in the city. However, life as a VIP is not easy at all, they are facing challenges in their daily life and every VIP has different stories and struggles. The project aims to raise the awareness of the public and encourage them to understand and empathise with VIPs. In collaboration with the Hong Kong Society for the Blind, the project was proposed to launch products produced by the Factory for the Blind so that people could purchase for donation.

What is noise?

Noise in analogue TV was taken as a metaphor for visual Impairment in this project. Imagining your eyes is a tv, and you live in your own movie. Although it’s imperfect, it can be beautiful in its own way. As the dots are randomly placed, it also metaphorises the relationship of people, there are stronger bonds and loose bindings, rather close or loose bonds are neutral, neither good nor bad. It is ever-changing, and we, as a part of society, can always stay curious to understand each other.

Promotional Campaign

The user journey could mainly be divided into three parts, pre-visit, during visit and post-visit stages. The target audience would first aware of the campaign by print and digital advertisements, then, the target could know more information from the website and they are invited to go to the concept store. When they come to the concept store, there are tasks for them to finish using the simulation glasses to have an immersive experience of visually impaired people living in the city and how they overcome the issues. Finally, they will be encouraged to support the organisation by purchasing the product that collaborated with the Factory for the Blind.

T-shirt

Did you know that? Around 8 out of 100 people in Hong Kong are visually impaired people, However, we seem very connected with them, why? We live in a city which unintentionally excluded the existence of visually impaired people. We hope that Noise in my eyes is the first step to let the public be more kind to the visually impaired people.

35 t-shirts with different patterns was printed and sells for donation.

There are 100 dots on each of the t-shirt, 8 of them are in different colour and separate from the other dots, which is a metaphor of visually impaired people living in the city. Being separated is part of the cruel reality, yet every VIP has a different story.
